Published 7 months ago • 3 min read
Hello from Working Group II! 👋🏼
We are now at update #5, coming off the backs of the First Lead Author Meeting for our Special Report on Climate Change and Cities which was held in Osaka, Japan and not forgetting the conclusion of the 62nd Plenary Session of the IPCC. In this email, you'll get updates on the outcomes of these big meetings, a call for authors for the 7th Assessment Report and some upcoming webinars. Plus, we've now added a section that shares the progress of our reports.
Here's what's new at Working Group II.
We appreciate your interest in our work, and we hope you enjoy this behind-the-scenes look of the making of these major IPCC reports.
Outlines of the 3 IPCC Working Group reports have been agreed!
At the 62nd session of the IPCC, government representatives agreed on the outlines for the 3 Working Group reports. These reports contribute to the major 7th Assessment Report (AR7) and these outlines form the basis of the report.
Call for author nominations for the 7th Assessment Report (AR7)
We are looking for authors to join the team for the 7th Assessment Report (AR7). This is the major report that the IPCC produces and we are looking for experts with the relevant expertise to come on board. Read the above for the agreed outlines and the topics that require expertise. Click the link below to find out more on how to get nominated.
If you remember our previous update on the draft outline for Working Group II's report to AR7, we are happy to share that the outline is finally agreed on by the intergovernmental Panel!
After a gruelling week which concluded with a 39-hour plenary, we are excited to present the agreed outline for Working Group II. You can acess the outline above and also check out coverage by the Earth Negotiations Bulletin to find out what took place in the meeting.
Working Group II Technical Support Unit (TSU)
From 10 to 14 March 2025, our TSU was whisked to Osaka Japan where we had the First Lead Author Meeting (LAM1) for the Special Report on Climate Change and Cities! This meeting marks the beginning of the drafting process for this Special Report, which is the only Special Report of the seventh assessment cycle and is scheduled to be finalized in March 2027. Selected authorswill work on developing the report based on the outline agreed by the Panel. In this meeting, they discussed the literature to be assessed in the report, and how the different chapters will complement each other. Plus, we got to meet the mascot for World Expo Osaka, Myaku Myaku!
Our experts!
We are incredibly honoured to have around 100 experts from 56 countries meet in person to begin this process. We appreciate the commitment and generosity of our experts in sharing their time, passion and expertise to this report. More about the selected experts here: https://apps.ipcc.ch/report/authors/
Upcoming events
Following our call for authors, we will be having some upcoming webinars across different regions to share more about the nomination process, the agreed outlines and answer questions. Stay tuned to our next update as we will share more details about these upcoming webinars taking place in the next few weeks.
