IPCC Updates #13 - Experts needed for 2 IPCC workshops!
Published 3 months ago • 2 min read
Hello from Working Group II! 👋🏼
Our team is busy this June, with some of us in Bonn, Germany for SB62, others just coming off the backs of AR7 author selections as well as preparing for the 2nd Lead Author Meeting (LAM2) for the Special Report on Climate Change and Cities.
But with that said, we have another call for experts so please share this call widely. More details below.
The IPCC is looking for experts to participate in the following:
Workshop on Engaging Diverse Knowledge Systems
Workshop on Methods of Assessment.
The workshops are designed to inform, and help the authors of the 7th assessment cycle, who will be faced with tackling these issues as they draft the reports.
The workshops will look at diverse knowledge systems, including scientific, indigenous, local, and practitioner knowledge, as well as new and extended methods of assessment, including artificial intelligence techniques, systematic review techniques, assessment methods for ex-post evaluation evidence.
Both workshops will produce a set of recommendations for consideration by the IPCC — authors, Bureaus, Technical Support Units, Secretariat and the panel itself —, research communities who generate the literature on which the IPCC relies, as well as funding bodies.
If that's you (or someone you know), you can find your national Focal Point here or a relevant IPCC observer organisation here to get nominated.
We also noted that some governments and organisations have put out open calls for expert nominations. You can find some of these here:
(2nd from L) Bart van den Hurk, Co Chair of Working Group II, presenting about our work
The IPCC Working Group II team was on the ground at the June climate meetings (SB62) in Bonn, Germany meeting stakeholders, presenting at events and sharing about our work. We participated in a mandated side event, where we prepared a presentation on our work program, including a lot of pointers to where our work has a lot of potential to be helpful for the Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA) discussions that will continue in the series of COP conferences in the coming years.
We quickly scooted over to Geneva, Switzerland for the 69th Bureau Meeting together with our Working Group II Bureau Members aka Vice-Chairs. The IPCC Bureau provides guidance to the Panel on the scientific and technical aspects of IPCC assessments and gives advice on management and strategic issues. For this meeting, a key agenda item was to discuss the author selection for the 7th Assessment Report.
